Our team has excellence in areas relevant to fuel cells and hydrogen technology. We participated in more than 15 national and 12 international research and educational projects and grants under different programs (FP6, FP7, INTAS, NATO, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, House of Europe).
We are implementing the paradigm “From Powder to Power”. Ukraine has one of the World largest deposits of zircon sends, titanium oxides and other basic materials for SOFC production.
The Laboratory expertise includes:
– experience of development of technology regimes for production of advanced zirconia powders for SOFC electrolyte application. Presently, we are on the stage of launching the pilot production of the powders for SOFC zirconia-based electrolytes.
– elaboration of the wide range of different techniques and approaches for manufacturing of SOFC with optimized structure and improved properties. Tape casting technique was elaborated to produce laboratory SOFC. Now, our team is focused on transferring from laboratory samples to pilot and industrial SOFC scales for their Combined Heat & Power systems.
– implementation of the Ti-based materials for IT-SOFC stacks. Currently, under the NATO project our team is implementing the developed novel Ti-based materials with advanced properties for IT-SOFC interconnects application, what should help avoid a problem with Cr-poisoning and contribute to decreasing the total weight of CHP-energy systems up to 30 %.
– educational activity. Under the last two projects of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes, our team elaborated the educational module for MSc course “FC&HT”, on-line CPD course “Hydrogen and Fuel Cells”, launched the popular science YouTube channel “First Hydrogen School” (youtube.com/@FHS_in_UA) and established educational center “First Hydrogen School” (www.FHS.in.ua), which accumulates and combines the vast experience of our team and act as a single-stop shop to disseminate and propagate the knowledge concerning hydrogen technologies and fuel cells in Ukraine.
